Benefit Show for Japan Features Live Music, DJs & Vintage Wheels Show @ Alex's Bar, Sunday April 10th, 3pm-2am
Event promoter, deejay and Salon Pop co-owner Frankie Alvaro didn’t want to just donate money to help relief efforts in Japan in the wake of the devastating earthquake and tsunami, so he decided to take manners into his own hands and organize a benefit with a few of his friends, musical colleagues and vintage wheels enthusiasts. The event is slated for Sunday, April 10th from 3pm-2am and features a vintage scooter, motorcycle, van, and car show in the front parking lot of Alex’s Bar [2913 E. Anaheim St., Long Beach, CA 90804; 562-434-8292]. Bands slated to take the stage include Dante Vs. Zombies, The Black Apples, TRMRS, Grand Elegance, Gabriel Hart and the Fourth Wall, Red Roses, Dano's Juke Joint Freak Show, Death Hymn Number 9, New Fidelity, The Crystelles, and Gestapo Khazi. Plus, DJs including DJ Frankie the Face, Geaux Geaux, Reuben Kaiban, Will'mer, Johnny Sleeper, Glory Boy Kev, and Marv Mack.
“This is the biggest event I've ever booked,” Alvaro confessed, “and I've been booking shows and deejaying for 8 years! The idea came to me from pretty much straight desperation. I wanted to help these people, but I didn't want to just donate $10 dollars by texting a random number, and then not even being certain when, or how much of that money would actually reach these poor people. So, that’s when I had the idea for the show and it came together pretty much overnight. Everyone wanting to participate, knowing the bigger picture, and for being a really big event it came together flawlessly. There will even be a raffle in the middle of the event, with donations from many of the shops on 4th Street as well as local tattoo shops, guitar shops, clothing and skateboard companies. 100% of the proceeds will be taken back to Japan by Immoni on 4th owners Eiko and her son Yuske, and I asked them to give the money to a charity that will put the money to use immediately.... or even to give the all of the money if they see a family walking down the street that had lost everything. We all need to do our part for Japan, and this is a great way for people to donate money, while having a great time!”
Companies who have generously donated items to the raffle include:

suzuki?
yep, its a suzuki. a '79 GS750. fully custom, looks like an indian or something. the ad says
"this is my latest project completed and up for sale. it is a 1979 suzuki gs750 which i built from the ground up. it has a new custom hardtail frame, the only original part of the frame left is the neck and the engine cradle. the suspension is an old 70's girder which i practically cut down in half and flipped it over. the front and rear fenders are actually made from 2 fenders each so they wrap around the wheels. the bike features powder coating on the front end, the fender racks and a few other misc. parts. i made a brand new wiring harness which is as barebones as you can get it, headlight, tail light, stoplight and ignition. this bike does not have a horn or turn signals. the seat features a nice thick piece of leather dyed and bolted down to a new seatpan with coil springs. the engine is in very good condition with no leaks, the transmission shifts very nice through all 5 gears. it was just tuned up as well as the carbs and purrs like a kitten on the freeway. i geared the bike so you can humm along at 75 mph with no problems(very comfortable ride). the front tire is brand new and the rear is in really decent condition. i ordered carb pod filters which are currently in route and not pictured."
and it says more, but you can check that out yourself if youre interested.
what do you think?
ps. its for sale on craigslist here.. http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/mcy/2268602786.html

the love the growlers. and i love the dudes in this band. i was in texas and they were there, and i was in new york and they were there! so weve been able to party all over the US of A. only bummer now is that their shows are full of east la mexican kids, and all of their shows are super packed now so i cant ever go see them again. but! last time we hung out brooks got me a bottle of really good whiskey for my birthday so we sat in the back of my van and drank it and it ruled. anyway this is a rant, so... bye!
oh man!
ive been swamped with work lately. and swamped with putting on this benefit for japan. ive got a million vintage vespas coming, a ton of sweet vans, cafe racers n 70s choppers, and well see what the car situation is like. either way, im guessing way too many vehicles, and not enough space. plus! i got a bunch of people to donate for the raffle. so far we have tickets to the morrissey convention, clothes, tattoo gift certificates from great shops, aaannnd a bunch of clothes. come investigate the fun!
